Brooklyn Nets Receive: G John Wall, 2023 First-Round Pick (MIL), 2027 First-Round Pick (Top 10 Protected – LAL), 2028 First-Round Pick (HOU)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Kyrie Irving
Houston Rockets Receive: F/C Anthony Davis
With this proposal, we’ve now managed to alienate the two biggest markets in the league in one article. Brooklyn Nets fans may not be enthusiastic about this swap.
Don’t shoot the messenger. We didn’t sink Kyrie Irving’s trade value by not taking the COVID-19 vaccine, or coming up with several other reasons not to come to work. If the Nets are, as rumors suggest, apprehensive about retaining Irving long-term, they shouldn’t expect to sell high on him.
At least this trade has them retaining some draft capital. Meanwhile, the Lakers make a gamble that they can make a reunion between James and Irving work. If anyone can reign the mercurial point guard in, it might be The King. Look for them to buy Westbrook out or move him elsewhere following this exchange.
Of course, this exchange is unlikely to happen. The Rockets will probably stay the course this summer. They’re building towards contention later in the decade. A hasty move for Anthony Davis is unlikely to suit their current interests.
