The Utah Jazz could look a lot different during the 2022-23 season than they did when they were eliminated from the 2022 NBA Postseason by the Dallas Mavericks. There has been a lot of focus on the roster, as Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert’s futures are up in the air.

However, it sounds like they could also be in the market for a new coaching staff. Head coach Quin Snyder’s future with the franchise is just as cloudy and there is a chance that his tenure with the team could be coming to an end.

Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim McMahon of ESPN shared an update about Synder and the Jazz, as his future remains unclear and he could decide to step down from his position.

“After weeks of conversations with ownership and management, Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder’s future remains unclear and a possibility exists that he could decide to end his eight-year tenure with the franchise, sources told ESPN.”

Snyder is currently the third longest-tenured head coach in the NBA, tied with Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors, behind only Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs and Eric Spoelstra of the Miami Heat. He has found a lot of success in Salt Lake City in the regular season, going 372-264, which has resulted in a Western Conference-high six straight playoff appearances. But, that success has not carried over to the postseason.

Utah has fallen woefully short there, never advancing beyond the second round despite some favorable breaks. In 2021, the Utah Jazz lost Games 5 and 6 after Kawhi Leonard injured his knee to lose the series to the LA Clippers. This year, the Mavericks played the first three games of their series without Luka Doncic, yet the Jazz went down 2-1 in the series.

“Quin Snyder is one of the best coaches in the NBA,” Jazz general manager Justin Zanik said during exit interviews in late April. “There is no other partner I would rather have as a coach and as a leader of our players and as a partner in our front office than Quin Snyder.”

There have been different scenarios discussed, such as extending his contract or allowing him to come back with the same deal intact. There is no timetable for things to get resolved, as this will go on for as long as needed until something can get hammered out.

Philosophical differences have been a major topic of discussion as well. Synder and the front office have discussed ways for this team to get over the hump and advance beyond the second round of the postseason.

With relatively new ownership and front office personnel, changes could always happen. Synder has made it through some already, but it could be the end of the line for him if he doesn’t feel like he can see eye-to-eye with the new people in charge.
