Making the Case: New York Knicks
Malcolm Brogdon isn’t the most exciting player in the league, but he’s the exact kind of floor general that the New York Knicks need — if they want to make a playoff push. He’s an excellent point-of-attack defender, something New York was sorely lacking last season.
He can effectively run an NBA offense and tally 20+ points per night. He can score from all three levels and is also capable of playing off the ball when RJ Barrett or Julius Randle are running point.
The Kemba Walker experiment fell flat on its face last season, and the Knicks can’t continue to play Alec Burks out of position as a point guard and expect to win games.
Brogdon is one of the most reliable floor generals in the league when he’s healthy and should help the Knicks compete immediately while also encouraging the development of their remaining young players.

Cam Reddish failed to crack Tom Thibodeau’s rotation, and Mitchell Robinson isn’t exactly the veteran coach’s favorite player either. Bringing in a hard-nosed, cerebral player like Brogdon in exchange for the two mercurial projects is an easy decision. Giving up a late lottery pick hurts, but it’s the standard cost for a player of Brogdon’s ilk.
