Making the Case: Los Angeles Lakers
When he’s clicking, Christian Wood can be a versatile two-way force. He’s big, strong, and long enough to anchor a defense, but also agile enough to guard on the perimeter. His defensive effort leaves a lot to be desired, but when he’s committed, he’s more than capable.
On offense, he’s a multifaceted threat, capable of knocking down spot-up triples, putting the ball on the floor and attacking closeouts, and creating with his back to the basket. He’s shot over 37.0 percent from deep in three straight seasons and will help space the floor for LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook.
Wood is big enough to play the center and can alleviate the Davis’ responsibility of banging down low against the Western Conference’s top centers until the playoffs roll around, even if there are limitations to him doing it.
Wood is about as great of a player as the Lakers will be able to find with the assets they’re able to shop around. Adding more shooting and offensive versatility is a must and he would undoubtedly help.
