Bad Landing Spot: New York Knicks
Speaking of Christian Wood’s defensive limitations…
This is mostly about the fit between player and head coach. Christian Wood is likely to give Tom Thibodeau a never-ending migraine in 2022-23 if he’s on the New York Knicks. His frequent missed rotations and lackadaisical defensive efforts will not fly with the veteran skipper.
It is possible that defensively, Wood would benefit from a move to the 4. With his slight frame and reasonably quick feet, it may be that he’s better suited for checking the perimeter than defending the interior.
Once again, the New York Knicks look like a bad fit. They’ve got a 4. Even if the Knicks move on from Julius Randle this summer, they’ll likely want to give the emerging Obi Toppin some extended run.

It’s a bad fit from every angle. The New York Knicks would be better served to retain Mitchell Robinson in free agency than pursue Wood. He’s a significantly less polished offensive player, but at least his rim protection will allow Thibs to sleep at night.
