Portland Trail Blazers
If the Portland Trail Blazers don’t trade down in the 2022 draft, it will likely be because they traded out of it altogether.
The Trail Blazers are in a unique position this year. Injuries landed them in a position to draft in the lottery this summer. They’re slated to pick seventh overall. As a team that looks likely to try to compete next season, they’ve got no reason to stand pat.
After all, they’re unlikely to lean on any rookie in their quest for wins, so why maintain a premium draft position? The Trail Blazers should be exploring trades that see them move down in the draft, and pick up a quality veteran or two for their troubles.
Many spectators expect them to move the pick to the Detroit Pistons for Jerami Grant. If that deal transpires, they’ll be trading out of the draft altogether. If it doesn’t, they should explore any opportunity that lands them players who are ready to win now.
