New York Knicks Receive: C/F Anthony Davis
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F Julius Randle, C Nerlens Noel, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 11 – NYK), 2023 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL)
This trade may be unlikely. The Los Angeles Lakers have said that Anthony Davis will be untouchable this summer. At the same time, teams have a way of saying things. You can only put so much stock in their publically available comments.
Behind closed doors, the Lakers have to be worried about Davis’ production over the last two seasons. He appears to be declining. At 29, he still has ample time to turn a corner. Still, getting this type of value for him now would have to be something the Lakers’ front office would consider.
Plus, there’s a world where it makes them better next season. Randle’s three-point shooting may have plummeted last year, but he’s still a better floor-spacer than Davis. That’s pivotal for Russell Westbrook. He needs shooting around him to be optimized.
Furthermore, three first-round picks are a big deal. The Lakers could package those along with Westbrook’s contract to land a bonafide superstar.
