Dallas Mavericks Receive: C Rudy Gobert
Utah Jazz Receive: G Jalen Brunson, C Dwight Powell, F Josh Green
As it stands, the Dallas Mavericks are down 3-1 against the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. Having been down 3-0, they’d be extremely unlikely to advance to the NBA Finals.
If the Mavericks do, don’t expect them to make any significant changes. On the other hand, they could be inclined to upgrade in spite of a successful season if they fall short. They’re regularly linked to Gobert. This deal lands them the 3x Defensive Player of the Year.
It also scratches several itches for the Utah Jazz. It gets them another big man to make up for the loss of Gobert in Powell. They land a solid perimeter defender in the young Josh Green. Most importantly, it lands them Jalen Brunson.
He’s emerged as a fringe star for the Mavericks over the 2021-22 season. In landing him, the Jazz could trade veteran Mike Conley for some solid defensive wings elsewhere. Alternatively, they could trade Jordan Clarkson and move Mike Conley into his sixth-man role.

Either way, Brunson too would qualify for that second-option position. On the other hand, if this team feels they’ve got more pressing needs, they may be able to fill them with a smaller deal.
