It seems like every year it can be said that it is an important offseason for the New York Knicks. For the first time in nearly a decade, this NBA offseason has a different feel.
The Knicks took major steps back this season and came back down to Earth. This is a team that overachieved a season ago and finished fourth in the Eastern Conference. As for this season, all did not go right and the Knicks missed out on the postseason.
Just a few weeks into the season, it was clear that something was not right.
It begins with Julius Randle. He was given a contract extension after what turned out to be a career year. The Knicks were hoping that Randle could be the star to build around moving forward, but that turned out to be false. The only saving grace is that the contract did not completely break the bank. That gives New York a chance to target some production in free agency in the offseason.

R.J. Barrett and Obi Toppin are looking like possible centerpiece players for the future. After the way he finished the season, it is clear that Toppin will be part of the plan next season.
Aside from the current pieces in place, it has been known that the Knicks need more star power. Where is that going to come from? Right now, it is unknown, but an ever-important offseason is right around the corner.
Here are three major targets that the Knicks could decide to target in NBA free agency.
