1. San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are another team that could make some big changes this offseason. They did an excellent job stockpiling assets ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring first-round picks from the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors.
That means the Spurs will have three picks in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft; No. 9 overall, which is their selection, No. 20 from Toronto and No. 25 from Boston. It is hard to imagine they would have space to give playing time to three rookies, so the Spurs could look to make a move up the board.
The Spurs are excellent at developing prospects, so they could look to draft and stash someone overseas with one of those selections as well. Even if that is their plan, they have the ammunition to move up from No. 9 into the top half of the lottery.
The Spurs are currently stuck in a bit of an awkward spot. They have some good players that are developing nicely, as they have qualified for the NBA Play-In Tournament both years it has been in existence. However, they are lacking star power to get to that next level.
