It feels like questions began surrounding NBA superstar Zion Williamson’s relationship with the New Orleans Pelicans from the moment they drafted him. Somehow, they haven’t stopped since.
In some ways, the Pelicans’ success this year did little to silence them. After making a postseason run in Williamson’s absence, a new question has emerged:
Does this team even need him?
In all likelihood, they won’t look to move him unless he demands a trade. His ceiling remains limitless. On the other hand, moving on could be justified from the Pelicans’ side. His availability remains an ongoing concern. It’s difficult to be confident that he’ll ever be unburdened by health concerns. If the Pelicans moved on now, they may be able to sell high.
