Why Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Brooklyn Nets have two good reasons to do this deal. One relates to the present, and one relates to the future.
In the present, Al Horford feels like an ideal stretch big man to pair with Ben Simmons. As a non-shooting ball-handler, Simmons needs to be surrounded by floor-spacing to maximize his strengths. Horford’s 36.0% career accuracy from distance will be helpful.
In the future, they’re acquiring Jaylen Brown. That speaks for itself. Brown and Simmons can be the foundation of a quality NBA team for a decade. Flanked by Kyrie Irving, they should be able to get started playing competitive basketball right away.
Again, none of this is likely. Both of those teams will likely enter 2022-23 with the same top offensive options that they did this season. Still, if either wants to get crazy this summer, they should give the other a call.
