Good Landing Spot: Orlando Magic
Russell Westbrook needs a specific atmosphere to be able to find success again on the court. There aren’t many teams that would be able to provide that to him, but he would likely be able to seek it out if he were traded to the Orlando Magic.
At first glance, the Magic may seem like an odd landing spot. They already have a logjam in the backcourt with Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz and R.J. Hampton vying for minutes. Westbrook would only complicate that, but they land on this list because they would likely buy him out should he be acquired.
Because Orlando has cap space, they wouldn’t need to match Westbrook’s salary dollar for dollar to bring him on. A package that includes Terrence Ross with Jonathan Isaac or Fultz would be enough to make a swap.
Perpetually rebuilding, as long as the Orlando Magic are receiving draft compensation in return, they could be willing to take on Westbrook’s contract. With no need for him on the court, they could then work out a buyout, enabling Westbrook to choose his next team once he clears waivers.
