The Charlotte Hornets’ NBA Play-In Tournament loss displayed one glaring fault in their team: defense. The team surrendered 132 points to the Hawks, despite a slow start from Trae Young.
Another play-in team had a disappointing year: the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets were swept out of the first round by the Boston Celtics.
A key midseason addition, Ben Simmons, had been rumored to be close to returning toward the end of the series. Simmons sat out the entire 4-game span, though, and has yet to suit up for Brooklyn.
Nets GM Sean Marks recently commented on the team’s need for players who can be “available.” Many took the comment as a shot at Kyrie Irving, but it could be just as easily pointed at Ben Simmons.
