New York Knicks Receive: G D’Angelo Russell
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Derrick Rose, G/F Alec Burks, C Nerlens Noel, 2023 First-Round Pick (via DAL)
This deal between the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves includes four players and one draft pick. When it is all said and done, this could be seen as just a salary swap as every player involved in this deal could be a free agent in 2023.
The Knicks address their point guard issue by acquiring D’Angelo Russell, who is on an expiring contract. Russell is someone that New York has shown some interest in going back to the 2015 NBA Draft when he went second overall to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Knicks landed Kristaps Porzingis fourth.
When he was a free agent in 2019, there was some interest from the Knicks again, who landed Julius Randle instead.
Now, they finally land him and get to see if he is their point guard of the future.

To acquire him, they part ways with Tom Thibodeau’s favorite Derrick Rose, who is having a second stint in Minnesota. Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel are also heading there and will add more veteran depth to a team looking to make a jump next season after qualifying for the postseason.
The Timberwolves are also landing a first-round pick in 2023 that the Knicks have via a trade with the Dallas Mavericks from the Porzingis swap.

Given how the Mavericks look, that pick will likely be outside of the lottery but first-rounders have value regardless of where they land.
