Houston Rockets Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: C Christian Wood, G Eric Gordon

Realistically, the major acquisition for the Los Angeles Lakers here is actually Christian Wood.

At 26, he’s a more valuable trade chip than Eric Gordon. Still, the Houston Rockets may be lucky to acquire a first-round pick for his services. He’s about to enter into a contract year, and questions about his maturity and defensive effort have grown increasingly loud.

This deal spares the Rockets from making the decision about whether to offer him a contact and make him part of their future. It also lands the Lakers some talent that should help immediately. With the Rockets landing a potentially valuable first-rounder, it feels like a win-win.

We’ll advise Rockets fans not to dust off their Westbrook jerseys. It’s safe to assume they’ll buy Westbrook out and allow him to find a home elsewhere. If that’s too hefty a price to pay for Rockets owner Tillman Fertilla, this deal might be off the table.
