Three-point shooting is a swing skill for a lot of NBA players. When the shot is falling, it can make the difference between an average player and a star.
Nobody highlighted that principle like Julius Randle last season. His accuracy nosedived from 41.1% to 30.8% between 2020-21 and 2021-22. His leaguewide perception followed the same trend.
Now, trade rumors surround him. It feels entirely likely that he’ll spend the 2022-23 season in a different uniform. The Knicks may regret the $26.1 million annual price tag they’ve committed to paying Randle through to 2025-26 already.
At the same time, Randle can still be a valuable player in this league. He may never shoot 40% from distance again, but he’ll probably exceed 30.8% by a comfortable margin.
