Malcolm Brogdon
On the subject of those needs, Malcolm Brogdon ticks a lot of boxes all at the same time.
He’s a point guard. Blessed with a high basketball IQ and well-rounded offensive skill set, he is, in fact, a very good one. He’s also a stout, reliable point-of-attack defender. Finally, he’s a respectable second option.
It is worth noting that “respectable” is not quite on par with “elite”. In acquiring Brogdon, the Knicks would not be assembling a superteam. Still, if Julius Randle can return to his 2020-21 form, and RJ Barrett can make strides, they could be a solid offensive trio that carries the Knicks back into the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Malcolm Brogdon is probably as good as gone when it comes to his Pacers. They acquired a similar, younger, and arguably better player in Tyrese Haliburton at last year’s trade deadline. Failing to get value for Brogdon this summer would border on malpractice for this team.
