Will Atlanta Hawks Make Trade Splash?
The Atlanta Hawks fell short of the NBA Finals again this season, after running back a roster that nearly took them there in 2021. Will they look to make more substantial changes this offseason?
Trae Young struggled in the postseason against the Miami Heat’s swarming defense. The Heat were able to focus solely on Young thanks to his lack of a co-star. The strategy worked, as the Heat bounced the Hawks from the playoffs in five quick games.
While the need for a co-star is there, don’t expect the Atlanta Hawks to fill it this offseason.
In free agency, options are quite limited this offseason. Excluding restricted free agents, the best options are Zach LaVine and Jalen Brunson, neither of whom would make a stellar fit next to Young.

The Atlanta Hawks would still have the ability to trade for a star, but sending out significant assets wouldn’t be an ideal move for the team. The better move would be to simply bolster the supporting cast, and enjoy another season of improvement before taking a swing at a free agent star in 2023.
The free agency class of 2023 is much deeper, including names like LeBron James, James Harden, and Bradley Beal.

Though the Atlanta Hawks do have the need for a star, expect them to simply bide their time this offseason.
