Orlando Magic Receive: F Talen Horton-Tucker, G Kendrick Nunn, 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL)
New York Knicks Receive: F Jonathan Isaac
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Derrick Rose
By including the Orlando Magic in their deal, the two biggest markets in the NBA broker something closer to a blockbuster.
Jonathan Isaac has had a disappointing NBA career to date. It’s not his fault. When he’s able to take the floor, he’s a one-man defensive system.
It’s no stretch to say that Isaac’s Defensive Player of the Year potential is obvious. He can lock down the perimeter and defend the rim in equal measure. Unfortunately, he just can’t seem to stay healthy.
If the Magic are ready to cut ties with the former lottery pick, the New York Knicks should have an interest in rehabilitating him. He’s certainly a Tom Thibodeau guy. The defensively-minded veteran head coach figures to fall quickly in love with the dynamic wing/forward.

Meanwhile, the Magic get a decent return for him here. They’re receiving a younger player in Horton-Tucker and a first-round pick in what projects to be a historic 2023 draft. Granted, that pick comes from the playoff-bound Dallas Mavericks.
Still, a bad break here or there could land the pick in the lottery.

Finally, the Los Angeles Lakers get their new starting point guard. If they made a move for Rose, we could assume Russell Westbrook wouldn’t be donning the purple-and-gold in 2022-23. That may be best for everyone involved.
