In all likelihood, members of both fanbases involved here will have a bone to pick with us after reading this. In other words, it’s a perfect compromise.
Making this deal would signal that the Brooklyn Nets don’t have much faith left in Ben Simmons to contribute in the near future. As sad as it is to say, that would be an understandable position for the organization to take.
After all, Simmons’s availability was ambiguous from the trade deadline right up until the team was eliminated. It appears that he’ll be ready to go for 2022-23. Forgive us, but we’ve heard that before.
This deal sees the team cut its losses, and recoup some value in the process.

Granted, it’s probably not the return they’d hoped for, considering that they acquired Simmons for James Harden.
