You’ve probably read the following sentence before. The Utah Jazz look likely to blow up their core this NBA offseason. Only, what if they don’t?
After all, this is a talented roster, albeit a flawed one. Fundamentally, the issue seems to be on defense. In fact, this team led the regular season in Offensive Rating. In rostering Rudy Gobert, the Jazz seemed to feel they could afford to populate the rest of their roster with weak defensive players.
They particularly struggle to guard the point of attack. That’s because Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell make one of the smallest backcourts in the entire league. The Jazz could use a more stout player in the backcourt.
Malcolm Brogdon would be a strong candidate. He could replicate much of the high IQ playmaking that Conley brings to the table while providing much sturdier defense.

If Donovan Mitchell is content in Salt Lake City, and the Jazz plan on sticking with him and/or Gobert in another bid for the NBA title, Brogdon would be a suitable trade candidate for them.
