Admittedly, Jaylen Brown may not be heading anywhere anytime soon.

After all, his Celtics have enjoyed a tremendous 2021-22 season of their own. They’re currently down 2-1 against the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks. In all likelihood, a second-round exit won’t inspire them to blow up a promising young core.

Still, Memphis Grizzlies fans can dream. If the Celtics do decide to make radical changes over the next two seasons, they should pursue Brown aggressively.

Brown is the type of player who’s tailor-made to be a second option. He’s a strong perimeter defender who can allow the primary option to find a little rest on that end of the floor.

He’s an excellent off-ball player who can comfortably co-exist with a ball-dominant superstar. He can also take over games so that the same ball-dominant star can conserve some energy.

Ja Morant happens to be a ball-dominant superstar who struggles on defense. Jaylen Brown would essentially function as a (very) rich man’s version of Brooks on these Grizzlies. He and Morant would make for a perfect one-two punch.
