Wait a second. This isn’t a Donovan Mitchell piece!

It doesn’t have to be. Mitchell is widely regarded as likely to be on the move this offseason. If those rumors prove true, and Zion Williamson does demand a trade, the Hornets and Pelicans could capitalize on the situation.

In pairing Mitchell and Ingram, the Pelicans have a winning formula. They also already have a strong supporting cast in place for what was supposed to be a Williamson/Ingram pairing.

Granted, the Mitchell/C.J. McCollum backcourt has the potential to get clunky. There’s still enough talent here to generate a top 5 offense: the Pelicans will live with that.

Meanwhile, the Jazz get the rebuilding starter package in this scenario. They could let Jones develop under Rudy Gobert’s tutelage, or trade Gobert separately for more future-focused assets. Either way, this is a good return for them if Mitchell’s departure is inevitable.

If Zion’s is a well, this deal just might suit every team involved.
