The Atlanta Hawks were frequently linked to Ben Simmons when he was collecting dust on the Philadelphia 76ers’ bench. Could they get their guy half a year later?
Granted, his trade value has hit a low point. One might argue that until he demonstrates some more reliability, he’s not worth John Collins. It’s a fair point, but Simmons has a more dynamic and varied offensive game than Collins when he does get on the floor. The Hawks are taking a gamble here, but it could pay dividends.
As for the Brooklyn Nets, they’re taking a marginal talent downgrade that they can afford. With Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the roster, they may not even need a healthy Simmons.
John Collins is a malleable combo big who can roll and pop off of picks. He doesn’t need the ball to make an impact offensively. Meanwhile, Gallinari is nearing the end of his career, but he’s still capable of providing offensive value in short bursts.

The other two trades in this piece are more likely to occur. The Atlanta Hawks may bulk at acquiring Simmons at this stage, while the Nets may prefer to rehab his value. Still, the struggling Hawks could see the value in an upside play.
