The New York Knicks are a team that will be looking to shake things up this NBA offseason. After a very successful 2020-21 season, when the Knicks earned the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. The 2021-22 season was not nearly as successful, as they finished in 11th place, missing the NBA Play-In Tournament by six games.
One of the players who were key to that successful run to the No. 4 seed was Derrick Rose. The Knicks acquired Rose from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr. and a second-round pick.
Rose proved to be a catalyst for the Knicks upon being acquired, as he helped jump-start the team as a steadying influence coming off the bench. New York went 24-11 in games Rose played in during the 2020-21 season, which earned him a nice contract as a free agent.
The Knicks re-signed Rose to a three-year contract worth just under $44 million. It seemed like a solid deal, market-value-wise, for someone that was such an integral part of the team’s success. Unfortunately, Rose was unable to replicate the impact he had as he just wasn’t on the court enough.

Rose played only 26 games this past season, dealing with ankle issues that he underwent procedures for. The point guard position proved to be a major issue for the New York Knicks, as Alec Burks, a shooting guard and wing by trade, was the team’s starting point guard for the majority of the season.
Looking to make some changes to the roster, Derrick Rose is one of the players that could be on the move. He hasn’t played more than 51 games in a season since the 2016-17 campaign as it is almost guaranteed that he will miss time.
