Making the Case: Brooklyn Nets
The blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia 76ers was supposed to help the Brooklyn Nets unload a player who was not going to return for them, which they did. It was also supposed to land them a premier defender with a high ceiling, which it did – on paper.
Simmons has yet to show anything in a Nets uniform because he has not put one on yet. At what point does the front office lose patience? This seems like it would be easy to do after being swept out of the postseason after having championship hopes.
There is not much that went right for the Nets this season, but as long as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are healthy, they will be viewed as a title contender. Now, the Nets need to find that depth needed to win in the postseason.
Simmons would not bring back as much of a return as the Nets had to pay. Horford is entering the final year of his career and could be a trade piece again for Brooklyn or be a bridge option until next year.

Either way, he would act as a reliable center for a team that could use one. Theis is another depth piece that could benefit the Nets coming off the bench.
The main intrigue of this deal is that the Nets would part ways with Simmons and make him another team’s problem.
