Ben Simmons
The fit between Ben Simmons and Trae Young may not be the cleanest. On offense, both are most effective with the ball in their hands. It would, on the other hand, be interesting, and that’s why we’d like to see it.
There is a natural synergy between the two as well. Young is a force on offense, but he’s arguably the worst defensive player in the NBA. Meanwhile, a healthy Simmons is arguably the best, even if he’s limited on the offensive end.
That sounds like balance to us.
Offensively, Simmons may have to alter his typical approach alongside Young. He could function as a pick-and-roll finisher in half-court sets while making use of his elite court vision in transition. Furthermore, the Hawks could stagger the two to ensure that Simmons gets reps as a ball-handler. If Simmons is willing to accept a new role, this pairing can absolutely work.
