Atlanta Hawks Receive: G Malik Beasley, F Jarred Vanderbilt, 2024 First-Round Pick (MIN)
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F John Collins
We saved the boldest trade for last. Out of all these hypothetical deals, none land the Wolves a player who moves the needle as far as Collins.
If they’re looking to upgrade at the four, Collins checks that box. He’s a borderline All-Star, and at 24, still has ample time to remove the “borderline” from that sentence. Even if he doesn’t improve in the slightest, adding him to this current Timberwolves core virtually guarantees them one of the best offenses in the NBA.
As for the Hawks, they’re swapping a deal with 3 years remaining for two deals with a year remaining on each. It’s a cap-clearing move. It’s widely speculated that they’re looking to move on from Collins in an effort to land a bigger fish down the road.
This deal accomplishes that for them. They should be able to find takers for either Beasley or Vanderbilt in separate trades. At the same time, they may be well-served to see how either fits with their current core.

They’re getting a first-round pick to aid them in future trades as well. If they’re really looking to unload Collins, they should give Minnesota a call this summer.
