Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Jerami Grant, G/F Dillon Brooks, 2024 First-Round Pick (MEM)
Detroit Pistons Receive: C Steven Adams, G De’Anthony Melton, 2023 First-Round Pick (MEM), 2024 First-Round Pick (GSW)
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: F Kevin Durant
With this deal, the Brooklyn Nets retool with a clear intention to continue winning.
On first glance, one could protest that Grant and Brooks are not fair value for Kevin Durant. Context matters. Durant is 34, while both the players the Nets are receiving here are well under 30. If Brooklyn has any reservations about Durant’s durability moving forward, this is a good trade for them.
A core of Simmons, Irving, and Grant should still be formidable in the East. Meanwhile, Dillon Brooks is a perfect complimentary piece for that group. All told, this deal makes the Nets more balanced, if significantly less heavy on the top.
Meanwhile, the Pistons get involved for the draft capital. They’re receiving two first-round picks in exchange for Grant. As a team in the infancy stages of a rebuild, that’s a great value.
