Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Rudy Gobert
Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Ben Simmons, 2022 First-Round Pick (via PHI)
Many hypothetical trade packages will be made this offseason to break up the All-Star duo of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. According to recent reports, Gobert is preparing an ultimatum for the team, saying it is either him or Mitchell, one of them has got to go.
In this scenario, Utah decides to build around Mitchell, trading Gobert to the Brooklyn Nets. How did we get to this point? For the Jazz, they have to make some sort of move and shake things up. They do just that in this scenario, as they acquire Ben Simmons and a first-round pick.
There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Simmons, who didn’t suit up for a single second this season. As Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer shared, teams were hesitant to make strong offers before the deadline to the 76ers for Simmons. Given his current condition, there is even more confusion.
Some teams are even out on Simmons at this point as the risk is too much for the potential reward. Swapping out Gobert for him at this point would lead to some head-scratching, but Simmons is someone that Danny Ainge, who is now part of the Utah front office, liked back when he was running the Celtics during the 2016 NBA Draft process.
