With this trade, the Toronto Raptors make a more definitive move towards rebuilding around Scottie Barnes.
They’re exclusively interested in the draft capital here. They’d be likely to move Hart in a separate deal. Meanwhile, Eric Bledsoe and his $19 million annual salary are only likely to benefit any team looking to match contracts at this stage in his career.
This trade does do wonders for the Raptors’ future. Portland’s 2022 pick is in the lottery. With the team built around the aging Damian Lillard, it’s entirely possible that either of the other two picks they’re sending out could be as well.
The Portland Trail Blazers are going all-in on the present here. That seems to be their preferred course of action. Damian Lillard looks determined to retire in Rip City, and the organization does not appear motivated to stop him.
