Washington Wizards Receive: G Kyrie Irving, 2022 First-Round Pick (PHI)
Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Bradley Beal
You were expecting someone else?
You shouldn’t have been. Contractually, sending Bradley Beal to the Brooklyn Nets is difficult. Kevin Durant is a non-starter. When healthy, he’s still a top-three player in the NBA. The Nets would trade him for, at the most, a few players. Bradley Beal is not one of them.
Joe Harris and a bunch of depth pieces can work financially. There’s no reason for the Washington Wizards to take that deal. The Nets don’t have enough incoming draft picks to make it worth their while. If they’re moving on from Beal, they’ll find a score of better deals.
They may not be interested in Irving. He is, as we’ve established, a walking risk factor. On the other hand, he is one of the most talented basketball players in the world. The Nets still send a pick to the Wizards. With Irving’s unpredictability and Beal’s solidness, it’s the only way to make this a fair trade.

If the Wizards want to roll the dice on Irving instead of Beal, there should be an extra pick in it for them.
