San Antonio Spurs

There have been some rumors swirling that the San Antonio Spurs could make a push for a big free agent this offseason. They are one of the few teams with money to spend in free agency and it wouldn’t take much maneuvering for them to open up enough space for a max contract offer.

Zach LaVine has been mentioned as a possible target for San Antonio. Some believe if you add a 25+ point per game scorer to this mix, that the Spurs would be a 50-win team, challenging for a spot in the playoffs next season.

San Antonio has some excellent young pieces in the mix that are only getting better. Dejounte Murray was an All-Star this season while Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell both have very bright futures. Jakob Poeltl broke out this season and the team is high on Josh Primo as well.

Adding a bonafide, go-to scorer to that mix would certainly elevate the team. If they are unable to land LaVine, why not try their hand at Bradley Beal?

Beal would bring more playoff experience to the table than LaVine, something this young San Antonio Spurs squad could use some more of.

Beal isn’t as efficient as LaVine offensively, but he has had some above-average true shooting percentage seasons, so being surrounded by a stronger supporting cast could put him back in that range.

Any shortcomings Bradley Beal has defensively would be covered up by Murray, who is elite on that end of the court and getting better every season as a ball-handler and playmaker. Beal could be the missing piece to help get San Antonio back into the postseason after a franchise-record three straight seasons of missing.
