Good Destination: San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs have the assets to trade for Donovan Mitchell and would still have enough talent remaining to compete with his services in tow. A backcourt of Dejounte Murray and Spida would be one of the most fearsome, balanced, young duos in the league.
Murray could handle the tougher defensive assignment among opposing guards and let Mitchell reserve his energy for offense. Over the past year, he’s proven to be a true floor general for the Spurs, capable of getting downhill at will and either finishing at the cup or finding open teammates.
Mitchell would bring the go-to scoring and perimeter offense that’s been lacking on the Spurs roster for years. He should still have plenty of young talent around him in San Antonio willing to play a role on offense and compete on defense.
If anyone could convince Mitchell to take a more team-oriented, two-way approach to basketball, it’d be legendary San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Even if Mitchell couldn’t lead the Spurs to a championship during Pop’s last days on the hardwood, turning Spida into a complete superstar would be a nice crowning achievement to retire on.
Some combination of the San Antonio Spurs’ multitude of young players and future draft capital should be able to get the deal done. So long as San Antonio retains Dejounte Murray, Jakob Poeltl, and one of Devin Vassell or Keldon Johnson, they should be able to compete with Mitchell leading the offense.
