Brooklyn Nets Receive: C/F Kristaps Porzingis, G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, 2024 First-Round Pick (WAS), 2026 First-Round Pick (WAS), 2028 First-Round Pick (WAS)
Washington Wizards Receive: F Kevin Durant
We’ll get this out of the way now: there is no Bradley Beal package in this article.
We can’t see why the Wizards would trade for the 33-year-old Durant if they weren’t pairing him with Beal. Durant, for all of his generational gifts, probably can’t get the Wizards over the hump as currently constructed. To justify this kind of win-now move, they’d need to have his co-star on the roster.
The Nets are basically rebuilding here. Arguably, that’s the right move with the 25-year-old Simmons on the roster. Additionally, Simmons and Porzingis profile as perfect partners. The latter is the stretch big that the former needs in order to be maximized.
The draft capital doesn’t hurt either. The Nets parted with a grand total of seven first-round pick and pick swaps when they acquired James Harden from the Houston Rockets. This trade allows them to restock their war chest while adding an impact player in Porzingis.
