Why the Portland Trail Blazers would hate this trade
Damian Lillard is the greatest player in Portland Trail Blazers history, that’s an indisputable fact. While he hasn’t reached the pinnacle in Portland, it’s always been more about the team that’s been around him than his own shortcomings.
If the Blazers were to trade Lillard, fans would be expecting a king’s ransom in return for what would hopefully be a mutual parting.
While Jaylen Brown is one of the best young players in the league, his acquisition wouldn’t really clear the way forward for Portland. Brown is talented enough to lead a semi-competitive team with Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic, and whoever else is left on the Blazers. They’d win enough games to at least keep them out of the top lottery odds.

The fact that Portland wouldn’t be receiving any draft compensation in this deal makes it a total bust. When, or if, the Blazers do trade Lillard, expect it to be in preparation for a complete teardown and return for a trove of future first-rounders and unfinished projects with potential as players.
This outlined deal would do nothing but guarantee continued mediocrity for Portland. An Anfernee Simons-Jaylen Brown swap makes much more sense for the Trail Blazers.
