The Brooklyn Nets took some of the attention away from the Los Angeles Lakers for the most disappointing team of the 2021-22 NBA season. While the Nets at least qualified for the NBA Play-In Tournament, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers, their stay in the postseason was short-lived.

Brooklyn drew the No. 2 seeded Boston Celtics and became the first team to be sent home in the first round. The Nets were swept 4-0, as they were unable to finish out games against a Celtics team that got it done on both ends of the court.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving needed to be spectacular every game for the Nets to have a chance to win, but they were unable to consistently get it done. Irving had a monster 39-point performance in Game 1 of the series but scored only 46 points in the following three games.

Durant was the opposite. He scored 66 points in the first three games before pouring in 39 in Game 4 when the Celtics sent the Nets home. Boston did an excellent job of not allowing Durant to get comfortable, as he shot 38.6 percent from the field in the series and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line.

With their offseason starting early, the Brooklyn Nets will have a lot of questions to answer and work to do when it comes to improving the roster. But, there is one former NBA player that believes Kevin Durant should remove himself from the equation and request a trade.

That is a wild take for Kendrick Perkins. Some of what is said on shows such as First Take need to be taken with a grain of salt as it is intended to get a reaction out of viewers. However, he couldn’t be more off in his assessment.

He may think Durant deserves better, but the team is in the position that they are because of what Durant wanted. Brooklyn has done nothing but acquiesces to their stars, as he and Irving have essentially been calling the shots since they arrived in town in 2019.

Durant didn’t want to be pushed by a head coach, so Kenny Atkinson was fired and replaced by Steve Nash. Nash’s schemes are easy to question, but it is fair to ask how much of a say he really has as Durant and Kyrie Irving pushed for this type of coaching. Irving even said they would all take turns calling the shots.
