This trade requires a couple of conditions to be met.

First, it requires that the Utah Jazz fall short enough in these playoffs that they recognize a need for a shakeup. It also requires that Donovan Mitchell hasn’t demanded a trade. If those are both truths this summer, a Randle-for-Gobert swap should be in the cards.

Tom Thibodeau would likely welcome the change. His love of rim protection is notoriously fanatical. He’s getting the best in the business in that regard when it comes to Gobert.

Meanwhile, this could be an interesting swap for the Jazz. They’re making up a fair portion of Gobert’s production in Noel. He’s a more-than-serviceable rim protector. They’re also getting a much better offensive player in Randle. This trade would undeniably shake up their pecking order.
