Ranking Top Center Options For Charlotte Hornets This Summer

Charlotte Hornets, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The Charlotte Hornets made more strides during the 2021-22 NBA season. Despite finishing in the 10th spot again, they increased their win total by 10 over last season. But, it wasn’t enough for head coach James Borrego to keep his job.

Borrego was fired following the team’s loss in the NBA Play-In Tournament, the second consecutive season in which Charlotte got embarrassed in the game. Last year, the Indiana Pacers beat them 144-117. This year, it was the Atlanta Hawks that thrashed them, winning 132-103.

If the Hornets want to take that next step they need to get serious about the defensive end of the court. They have an electric offense that can keep up with anyone, led by LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, but they cannot consistently get stops at the other end of the court.

Given how prolific the offense is, the Hornets just need an average defense to become playoff contenders. That is a sizable improvement for the team to make, but certainly attainable with the right moves this offseason.

One position that the team should look to address is center. With Montrezl Harrell hitting free agency, once again the center spot is a need in Charlotte. If they can find a defensive anchor in the middle that is an upgrade over Mason Plumlee, they could be in business.

Luckily for the Charlotte Hornets, several solid centers could be available this offseason. Let’s take a look at and rank five of the top center options for Charlotte to target this summer.
