3 Names Linked To Warriors As Potential NBA Free Agency Targets

Golden State Warriors, NBA Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

While the Golden State Warriors find themselves in the midst of a playoff run, some attention needs to be on the upcoming NBA offseason. With their championship core back intact after two years, they have shown they’re capable of putting another banner in the rafters.

A recent article for Bleacher Report cited three upcoming NBA free agents Golden State should have their eyes on. Two of them are players who are currently on the Warriors’ roster, Kevon Looney and Gary Payton II. The final player was Memphis Grizzlies forward Kyle Anderson.

Anderson is the type of do-it-all player that would seamlessly fit with the Warriors’ style. This season, he posted averages of 7.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals. Plus, at 28-years-old, he fits Golden State’s timeline as they are looking to compete now.

Given how many young players continue to blossom in Memphis, the Grizzlies’ front office has a lot of tough decisions to make. With so many upcoming extensions, they might be forced to part ways with someone like Anderson. This logjam could allow the Warriors to swoop in and add a capable and experienced veteran to their roster.

Gary Payton II has bounced around throughout his NBA career but looks to have found a home in Golden State. The intensity he brings on the defensive end of the floor provides a huge boost to the Warriors’ second unit.

Albeit on low volume, Payton II is also a capable three-point shooter. Forcing opposing defenses to stay somewhat honest when guarding him. After the career year he’s had, it would be foolish for the Warriors not to try and retain him.

Kevon Looney has played for Golden State his entire career and proved he is capable of being a reliable starting center. He is solid on both ends of the floor and fully understands his role in their scheme.

The Golden State Warriors have never been a team to invest much at the center position and should certainly be looking to re-sign Looney when he hits the market this summer.
