Why The Trade Makes Sense For The Chicago Bulls
You could summarize why this deal makes sense for the Chicago Bulls with a single word: defense.
Having said that, sophomore forward Patrick Williams does provide plenty of that. Unfortunately, he spent the majority of 2021-22 sidelined due to injuries. The Bulls soldiered on, winning 46 games in his absence.
Maybe that success dissuades them from doing this deal. They could look at their record this season and conclude that with a versatile, defensive-minded, floor-spacing wing like Williams, they would have won five more games. Of course, they could equally conclude that they’re in desperate need of a primary rim protector.
As solid as Williams is defensively, that’s a job description the 6’9 forward could never meet. If the Bulls are in the market for rim protection, gambling on Anthony Davis to return to form may be a risk worth taking.
