LA Clippers Receive: G Collin Sexton (Sign & Trade)
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: F Marcus Morris Sr., G/F Terance Mann

The Cleveland Cavaliers started the 2021-22 NBA season hot but eventually sputtered out of the Play-In Tournament due to a lack of offensive creation and experience. This trade allows them to plug both holes while focusing their team’s future around rising star Darius Garland.

The Cavs were desperate for an additional guard this last trade deadline and eventually moved for Caris LeVert. Unfortunately, the fit has been less than perfect. In this move, they grab Terance Mann, an offensive creator who can play in the backcourt or on the wings and is young enough to grow alongside Garland.

Mann’s scoring punch should bring a balance to the Cavs’ starting lineup, and his defensive effort should fit right in with Cleveland’s new identity.

Marcus Morris gives the Cavaliers a two-way forward with great size. He should be able to slide right into Cleveland’s jumbo lineup as the three and significantly improve their defense as opposed to having Lauri Markkanen chase down wings. He’ll also add another half-court shot-creator to a squad that badly needed it last year.

The Clippers, on the other hand, grab Collin Sexton, a young, impassioned scoring guard with great potential. LA would be banking that Sexton is a better passer than he’s shown, which may be the case as he was surrounded by middling talent in his young career and then was paired with a transcendent passer in Garland.

Even if he doesn’t improve as a floor general, Sexton’s enough of a playmaker that he’ll be able to find LA’s shooters open after collapsing the defense with his intense slashing ability. He’ll bring heart and personality to a team whose two stars are lacking in those departments.
