This NBA offseason could see a lot of veterans on the move. With so few teams having cap space to spend in free agency, trades are going to be the only way a majority of franchises around the league will be able to upgrade their roster.

If Terrence Ross of the Orlando Magic had his way, he would be one of those veterans on the move. Ross has seemingly been on the trade block for two years, but no deal has come to fruition involving him. His name has been brought up in trade circles, but he remains in Orlando as the last man standing.

The Magic started moving on from veterans at the trade deadline in 2021, as Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, and Evan Fournier were all traded. When Terrence Ross wasn’t dealt, many assumed a deal would come during the offseason. No deal materialized, making the 2022 NBA trade deadline the next possibility.

Ross survived that one too but would like to be traded. While he hasn’t demanded a trade, it is something he wouldn’t be opposed to having happen.

“I feel like I’m a part of that old regime, and they’re going in a different direction,” Ross said. “I don’t know what they’ve got in store for me. It’s hard to say. They don’t really let me know too much about what they’re doing. So, I’m kind of here, just along for the ride.”

Ross has shown that he can be a sparkplug off the bench as a prolific scorer. Given where the Orlando Magic currently are in their rebuild, that isn’t something that they need. They would be better off giving those minutes to one of the young guards they have in their rotation, which they have plenty of.

Terrence Ross would be a good fit on a contending team that needs a boost to their second unit. He has averaged 13.3 points per game with Orlando, coming off the bench in all but 46 of his 307 appearances with the team.

Entering the final year of his contract, he should be an attractive trade chip this offseason and ahead of the deadline if he isn’t traded ahead of the regular season. He knows the Magic is aware of this, which is partly why he hasn’t requested a move.

“They know that. They’re well aware of that, so there’s no point,” Ross said. “They’re going to do what they want to do regardless.”

If they can get some draft capital or a young player in return, the Orlando Magic will likely pull the trigger. Orlando likely missed out on getting the move value they could for him, but even two second-round picks is better than nothing at this point for the rebuilding Magic.
