The Cleveland Cavaliers were the surprise of this NBA season, contending for the East’s top spot through the middle of the season. Injuries got the best of the Cavs as they stumbled to the play-in and out – but there is much to be excited about in Cleveland.

One of the most surprising parts of the season was that their success was without star guard Collin Sexton.

After averaging 24.3 points in 2021 as part of a two-headed monster with fellow Cavs guard Darius Garland, Sexton went down with injury just 11 games into the 2022 season.

Sexton underwent surgery to repair his torn meniscus and should be ready to go to start next season. As he looks ahead to his next season, many are wondering what his future in Cleveland will look like.

For his part, the restricted free agent has expressed a desire to stick around with the Cavaliers.

“I want to be here in Cleveland,” Sexton said. “I love the organization, love my teammates and whatever happens, I know that Cleveland was really good to me. I know this is the place that helped me get to where I am today, and I know I want to continue to be a part of this winning culture and be a part of this culture.”

Sexton went on, “I feel like me just being able to be at the start of it helped us get to [the Play-In] and where we are right now at the present. So, I love Cleveland. I want to be here.”

Sexton could provide a huge boost to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ offense, which became a bit over-reliant on Darius Garland in the Play-In tourney. Though he’s not the distributor Garland is, Sexton may be an even better scorer. Sexton is a quick guard who can score inside while knocking down outside shots as well at a career 37.8% clip.

The contract negotiations will be interesting for Collin Sexton, who may not get the offer he wants after missing an entire season.
