For as long as Luka Doncic has been a Maverick, he’s needed a secondary ball-handler. It’s beginning to feel routine: the Slovenian wunderkind dominates the NBA regular season, delivers in the playoffs, and still falls short. He needs help.
As it stands, the Utah Jazz may be in a position to deliver it to him this offseason. If they don’t make a significant playoff run, it’s beginning to feel increasingly likely that they’ll host a firesale this summer.
In that event, the Mavericks should make inquiries about Mike Conley’s availability as soon as possible.
The veteran floor general should be a perfect compliment to Doncic. He’s a high-IQ, low usage point guard who provides more-than-ample floor-spacing. He could thrive during the long stretches that Doncic is dominating the action while still providing value as a shot creator when he isn’t.
