3. Complementary Players Stepping Up
Both the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks are led by electric point guards in LaMelo Ball and Trae Young. They are two of the league’s best young point guards and still have plenty of room to continue growing and rounding out their games.
The matchup between those two will be worth keeping an eye on as they are the engines that make these teams go. The determining factor in the game could very well be which team’s complementary parts come together best around them.
For the Hornets, that will be Miles Bridges, Terry Rozier, P.J. Washington, and Kelly Oubre. Rozier will be tasked with trying to slow down Young as the team’s best perimeter defender. Oubre has seen his role grow with Gordon Hayward sidelined and is an important piece off the bench. Bridges had a breakout 2021-22 season and the Hornets need that to continue.
For the Hawks, they will need players such as Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter, and Clint Capela to step up. They are also missing a key contributor as John Collins is dealing with a foot injury.
