Cam Reddish Suggested As Potential Trade Target For Rockets

Cam Reddish, Rockets, NBA Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

During the 2021-22 NBA season, the New York Knicks made the move to acquire talented wing Cam Reddish from the Atlanta Hawks. Unfortunately, things did not go smoothly between the two parties and it is expected that Reddish could be available for trade once again this offseason. One team to keep an eye on in trade discussions for Reddish is the Houston Rockets.

Reddish has the potential to be a very good starter at the NBA level. He showed flashes of that potential with the Hawks prior to being traded. While things didn’t work out in New York, that wasn’t due to Reddish’s ability to play the game.

Instead, it was clear that Reddish was not in the good graces of head coach Tom Thibodeau. When a coach and player don’t get along, the player usually doesn’t stick around too long. With the Knicks expected to keep Thibodeau for at least one more, a trade for Reddish seems very likely.

Over at ClutchPoints, Reddish was mentioned as a potential trade target for the Rockets this offseason.

Wings with his length, athleticism and natural scoring chops are few and far between. The Rockets need stable scoring and defense next to Green and Porter, and Reddish could eventually provide both.

Prior to being traded to the Knicks, Reddish played a very steady role with the Hawks for 34 games. He mostly came off the bench, but ended up averaging 11.9 points per game to go along with 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Reddish shot 40.2 percent from the floor and 37.9 percent from the three-point line.

Those numbers aren’t amazing, but they aren’t horrible either. Reddish has plenty of areas to improve, but there is no denying that the potential is there for him to become a very good player.

Looking at the Rockets, they are in a position to buy as much young talent as possible. Jalen Green looks like a legitimate franchise scorer, but Houston still has a few years before they will be able to compete in the Western Conference. Adding the 22-year-old Reddish would help them both now and in the big picture.

Expect to hear quite a few rumors surrounding Cam Reddish this offseason. The Rockets may not end up pursuing him, but they certainly make sense. If it’s not Houston, there will be plenty of teams willing to take a chance on Reddish and the talent he brings to the court, assuming the Knicks want to move him.
