With the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2021-22 season officially over, the entire focus will shift to the upcoming offseason. The franchise has a ton of work ahead of them to get back into playoff contention and one hard decision will come in NBA free agency with guard Malik Monk. After an impressive first season in L.A., the Lakers would like to get Monk back but he won’t come cheap.

Monk put together a great season with the Lakers and improved his market value incredibly. There will be plenty of teams lining up with interest in signing him when free agency opens up.

According to Bleacher Report reporter Jake Fischer, the market value for Monk is expected to be between $5 to $10 million.

Expectations among league personnel polled by B/R for Monk’s next salary are quite varied but have ranged from an average annual value between $5 million and $10 million, far above the minimum number that the Lakers were able to sign him for this season.

That number would be well worth paying for quite a few teams around the NBA. Any team that is looking for a scorer should check in with Monk. He has proven himself more than capable of being a consistent scorer either in the starting lineup or coming off of the bench.

Throughout the course of the 2021-22 NBA season with the Lakers, Malik Monk ended up averaging 13.4 points per game to go along with 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists. He shot 47.1 percent from the floor overall and 38.8 percent from the three-point line. Those numbers will earn him a very nice contract.

At just 24 years of age, Monk could be signed by a young team or a contender. He could be a piece to build around for the next three or four years. Monk has a very good chance to get paid at the higher end of this projection for multiple years.

Expect to hear of a lot of teams having interest in signing Monk in free agency. The Lakers would like to have him back, but it might not be doable. Monk will be a name to keep a very close eye on.
