The Portland Trail Blazers are precisely where they were expected to be. Where is that? Near the bottom of the Western Conference as they maximize their positioning in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Coming into the season, there was not much hope for this Blazers’ team, and treating CJ McCollum was the last straw. After years of disappointing finishes in the postseason, Portland decided to split up to do all of my column in Damian Lillard.

There were plenty of talks on which would go, but the front office ultimately decided to keep Lillard in town. This was the right choice. Damian Lillard is a generational talent and one of the best point guards the NBA has seen. At the same time, he cannot do it by himself and will need some more help to navigate a brutal Western Conference. 

Where will that help come from? There are plenty of options for Portland to look at in the offseason.
